Log Data Mining

Concurrent with the survey activity, a related effort will be initiated to analyze and "data-mine" the online usage logs HighWire Press collects for each journal.

HighWire Press collects access data on all journals it hosts online. Log access data mining will provide us with insights on actual usage patterns of readers and their preferences with regard to scholarly journals. We hope to prove the concept of transaction log analysis as a useful means of gauging the relative success of information-intensive web spaces, and to develop a kit of custom analytic tools suitable for continuing or periodic use in the HighWire environment that will be of service to publishers in evaluating value and success of online journals.
